Are west ham over-hyped ?
no doubt most people on here would've bitten your hand off if we were given the option of finishing seventh at the beginning of the season. After spending pretty much the whole season in the top 6 ,7th feels disappointing.

which brings me on to are west ham overhyped? finishing 7th out of 20 teams is solid and no more ,yet the publicity we seem to garner seems way in excess of what we actually have achieved this year.

Re: Are west ham over-hyped ?
If we'd won games like today that we dominated and had refereeing decisions balance themselves out over the season we most likely would be sitting a few places higher in the league right now.

Re: Are west ham over-hyped ?
Without poor refereeing decisions top 6 would have been sorted a few games ago and maybe would have been in for a chance with the champions league.

Re: Are west ham over-hyped ?
The only place they're over hyped and subsequently over expected of is on sites like this.

We've played well and the media have picked up on that, don't recall any of them saying we should be pushing top 4 etc. In fact when they have been talking about the race for fourth, we were pretty much ignored even though on paper the home game against Swansea could have seen us up there.

Are we over-hyped

NO

7th is pretty good and more or less where we should be.

We need to push on though

2 strikers and a proper right back please

We cant blame refereeing decisions, we can only blame ourselves. Defence and attack not good enough and bilic has not managed the team properly - end of

Re: Are west ham over-hyped ?
Our style of football and exciting play is not overhyped at all.

We're not a great side yet though.

There are a few areas where we could do with an injection of quality (top striker is desperately needed, for a start) and we can be naïve at times - but things look very promising.

Again, I'd expect us to spend more than most teams this summer (aside from the super-rich clubs) and we'll be even more competitive next year.

Re: Are west ham over-hyped ?
It was a good season, played some great football at times but we threw away the fa cup and champs league place because we were not good enough, not because of refereeing decisions

If anything we are ignored and neglected

We've missed Collins and a steady back four in the run-in.

Dreadful bad luck.

No. We just choked. Our strikers got the yips (I think its called)

Re: Are west ham over-hyped ?
I dont think so - Ignoring the results and the final table position, our football this season has been wonderful to watch at times.

I think alot of people have had a look at us playing this season, seen that we are in the top 6 or 7 and jumped to the conclusion that we are an unstoppable force.

At the end of the day:

- Our highest finish in the premiership since in 15 years.

- Our joint highest ever goals tally in the premiership

- Fewest ever losses in the premiership

- Qualification for Europe (hopefully)

I think we are a club that is most definitely on the up with committed owners making it very obvious that they will invest in quality players.

Success is measured against expectation. At the start of this season everyone wanted a top 10 finish, some even claimed that remaining in the premiership was good enough. Reaching 7th and being 9 points away from 2nd coupled with a decent run in the FA cup exceeds those expectations.

Alot of our expectations were altered mid-season after we realised that we were playing good football. This is unfair if you ask me.

To summarise:

Over-hyped - No.
Successful (based on this season) - Yes.
Developing into a decent Champions league challenging side - Hopefully
